For a local move, two to three weeks ahead usually gets you the date you want. For long-distance or a move at the end of the month, aim for three to four weeks — those dates fill up fastest. That said, we can often handle last-minute moves; get a quote and we'll tell you honestly what's available.

Do I need to pay a deposit to lock my date?

Yes — a small deposit reserves your crew and your date. It's applied directly to your move, so it isn't an extra charge, it's the first part of your total. The balance you pay is exactly the fixed price you already approved.

What should I do to get ready for move day?

Accepted Answer

Have everything you're packing yourself boxed and sealed before the crew arrives, label boxes by room, and keep a clear path to the door. If your building needs a freight elevator reserved or a certificate of insurance on file, let us know early — we'll file the COI with your building before move day so nothing stalls the crew.

What happens if something gets damaged during the move?

Every move includes basic carrier liability, and we offer full-value protection options that we'll explain in plain English before you book. Our crews wrap furniture in blankets and shrink wrap and protect your floors, so damage is rare — but if something does happen, you have one foreman accountable for the whole job and a clear claims process, not a runaround.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards through a secure checkout. You pay the deposit when you book and the remaining balance on completion of the move — and that balance is the same fixed price you approved up front, with nothing tacked on at the end.

How does MoveInQuote calculate my price?

Accepted Answer

We price your move on what you're actually moving — your inventory, your two addresses, the floors, and whether there's an elevator or a walk-up. You tell us those details once and get an itemized, fixed price. It isn't an hourly meter, so traffic, slow elevators, and the crew's lunch break are our problem, not a line item on your bill.

Question 7

Is the quote a binding fixed price or just an estimate?

It's a fixed price, in writing, reviewed by a working foreman before you pay anything. The number you approve is the number on your final invoice. The only way it changes is if you add items or services after booking — and we'd re-quote those with you first, never spring them on you on move day.

Are there hidden fees for stairs, long carries, or fuel?

No. Stairs, walk-ups, long carries from the truck, fuel, mileage within our service area, blankets, shrink wrap, and floor protection are all built into your fixed price. If something about your move drives cost — a fifth-floor walk-up, a tight street — you'll see it reflected in the quote up front, not as a surprise add-on later.

Question 9

Do you offer packing, or do I have to pack myself?

Both. You can pack everything yourself, have our trained packers do the whole home, or split it — many customers have us handle just the kitchen, the art, and the fragiles. We bring proper materials (double-walled cartons, dish-pack barrels, picture boxes), and pro-packed items are eligible for full-value protection. You can add packing to your quote in a couple of clicks.

Which areas and routes do you cover?

We handle local moves across all five NYC boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — plus the close-in New Jersey and Westchester suburbs. For long-distance, we move from NYC to anywhere in the continental US, from a studio heading to Boston to a four-bedroom relocating to Texas.
